My love and experience of digitising historical documents mainly stems from working in two digitisation teams, for the National Library of Scotland, and for the ScotlandsPeople and British Newspaper Archive websites (while working for the Find My Past genealogy company). This experience is mixed in with studying History at the University of Dundee in the early to mid 1990s.
Working in these teams inspired me to learn more about digitisation processes and equipment. Over the years, I have learned how to scan 35mm slides, videos, camcorder cassettes, photo negatives, glass plates, magic lantern slides, audio tapes, vinyl records and cine films. As a result, I have an excellent hands-on knowledge of digitisation, as well as a passion for the subject. I digitised my first photo in early 1997, and have been scanning and digitising items ever since that first scanned photo. Regarding the digitisation of cine film, my love for working with cine film comes from my parents and grandparents, who were all cine film buffs - much of the cine equipment I have also came from my parents and grandparents.
The photo on the right shows me working on The British Newspaper Archive (BNA) stand at the 'Who Do You Think You Are?' show in London, in February 2013.
